From The Head - Friday 28th February 2025

Julia Langford, Headteacher of The Ryleys School, a private school in Alderley Edge, Cheshire

This week has brought fantastic news for our lovely Year 6 pupils who received their 11+ examination results, recording 100% success almost across the board.

In total, there were 39 offers of school places, including 5 scholarships, for just 14 children - quite the achievement!

Sometimes, parents can worry about the process of sitting entrance examinations. However, the 11+ exams offer numerous benefits beyond just being an entrance to grammar schools; they can substantially influence your child's academic and personal growth.

Preparing for these exams helps develop essential skills such as critical thinking, time manage-ment, and problem-solving. The structured study process can also enhance your child's confidence and academic commitment, laying a strong foundation for future educational success.

At some point, children will have to sit formal exams and it is great preparation to have this experience at 11+ rather than when they take their GCSEs, not to mention the academic stretch and challenge that comes in studying this rigorous syllabus - it really does prepare children for life.

Our Y5&6 teachers are vastly experienced in this process and we offer an extremely comprehen-sive system to smoothly navigate the children (and parents) through it, resulting in impressive outcomes.

The most noticeable thing this week has been the children's incredible sense of achievement and pride, and rightly so. They have been practically fizzing with happiness!

Well done, Year 6 - we are very proud of you and you fully deserve your tremendous success.
