The Pre-School years are an exciting time of discovery, growing independence and wonderful new achievements. As children's personalities emerge and their confidence develops, our Pre-School provides the perfect environment to encourage curiosity, nurture friendships and celebrate every step forward.
From the September following their second birthday, children join our Pre-School class, where our experienced and caring team carefully balances the freedom to explore with purposeful learning opportunities. Every child develops at their own pace, supported by familiar routines, individual attention and plenty of encouragement.
Learning Through Discovery
At this age, children are naturally inquisitive, eager to investigate the world and beginning to make sense of their experiences. Our thoughtfully designed learning environments encourage imagination, creativity and exploration through a combination of child-led play and engaging adult-guided activities.
From storytelling, music and imaginative play to early numbers, language development and creative discovery, every activity helps to strengthen the foundations for future learning.
Outdoor exploration is an important part of every day. Our extensive outdoor spaces provide opportunities for active play, sensory experiences and adventures in nature, encouraging children to develop physical confidence, coordination and a growing understanding of the world around them.
Growing Independence, One Step at a Time
Pre-School is a year of remarkable personal development. Children begin to form stronger friendships, communicate their thoughts and feelings more confidently, and take increasing pride in doing things for themselves.
Our team gently supports important milestones such as toilet training, changing sleep routines and developing independence with everyday tasks, always recognising that every child is different.
Even lunchtime becomes an exciting opportunity for growth! As the year progresses, children are gradually introduced to eating in the school's dining hall, building confidence and familiarity with the wider school environment.
Specialist Teaching, Inspiring Young Minds
One of the distinctive benefits of Pre-School at The Ryleys is access to specialist teaching from an early age.
Alongside their everyday learning, children enjoy weekly French, Music and Stretch & Grow sessions, introducing new experiences through songs, movement, games and playful discovery.
These opportunities encourage communication, coordination, creativity and confidence, while helping children develop a natural enthusiasm for learning.
Personal Attention and Strong Relationships
Our Pre-School operates with a staff ratio of 1:4, ensuring children receive the individual care, encouragement and attention they need.
Every child has a dedicated Key Person who builds a close relationship with them and their family, supporting their development, celebrating achievements and ensuring they feel secure and valued.
Through our secure Famly app, parents can enjoy regular updates, photographs and developmental observations, sharing in the experiences and milestones of each Pre-School day.
Care in Every Detail
Our daily routines provide a reassuring balance of activity, discovery, rest and care.
Freshly prepared meals from our school kitchen, nutritious snacks and opportunities for quiet time are all part of the day. As children's needs change, our experienced team works closely with families to support each stage of their development.
Breakfast, a hot lunch, morning and afternoon snacks, and nappies where required are all included. Children attending an Extended Day also enjoy a late afternoon High Tea.
Pre-School Opening Hours
Pre-School is open Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6.00pm, offering families the flexibility of term-time or all-year-round care.
Daily session options:

School Day: 7.30am – 4.30pm

Extended Day: 7.30am – 6.00pm
A minimum booking of two days per week applies.
Attendance options:

All Year Round: 50 weeks per year, closing for two weeks at Christmas
