What is the class size at The Ryleys School?
The class size at The Ryleys School is small, with a maximum of 18 students per class. We believe in maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio, ensuring that each child receives personalized attention and support. Each class benefits from a highly experienced teacher along with a dedicated class teaching assistant. Pupils all also benefit from specialist teaching with subject matter experts.
What is the average class length?
The school day starts at 8:30 am and finishes at 3:30 pm, with drop off possible from 8.15 and after school clubs running till 6pm. Early Years classes for children aged 1 to 4 are available from 7.30am till 6pm.
Is The Ryleys School coeducational?
Yes, The Ryleys School is a coeducational school, exclusively for boys and girls aged between 1 and 11 years old. Historically, The Ryleys School was boys only but since 2011 has been coeducational and the current pupil numbers are virtually 50:50 in all year groups.
What is the curriculum at The Ryleys School?
Our curriculum is broad and challenging, ensuring our pupils receive exceptional education from the youngest age. All pupils benefit from extensive Maths & English lessons. In addition specialist teaching in Science, French, Music, Physical Education, Art & Design, IT, Global Perspectives and Drama are included in the curriculum. Pupils follow a timetable much like many senior schools, with subjects taught in 45 minute time slots.
What extracurricular activities are available at The Ryleys School?
A broad range of extracurricular activities is available at The Ryleys School, including sports such as football, swimming, gymnastics, and netball, as well as music, art clubs and environmental programmes. There is great participation in external competitions and the school offers various trips and visits throughout the year.
What is the admission process at The Ryleys School?
Parents are encouraged to contact the school admissions department to arrange a personal tour of the school. Following the tour, a taster day can be arranged if required. An admissions pack is required to be completed including a contract, medical questionnaire and GDPR form. A surety deposit is required to reserve a place. Due to the popularity of our classes, we recommend applications around 18 months prior to your preferred start date.
Is there an entrance exam for The Ryleys School?
Whilst there is no entrance exam, all pupils are invited for either a personal tour or taster day. Pre Admissions Questionnaires are issued and used as part of the admissions process. Places are offered to The Ryleys School at the discretion of the school.
Do you accept entrance at any year, or only in Reception?
The majority of pupils join our Early Years and transition through to Reception. We welcome Reception new starters and also applicants to join later in their academic journey. New starters can join part way through the school year.
Do you have to stay on to the main school if you attend the Early Years classes?
The vast majority of Early Years pupils stay from Early Years into the Main School. Should a child not be able to stay into Reception, the Surety deposit is not able to be refunded. The Surety deposit is refunded at the end of Year 6.
Where do pupils go after The Ryleys School?

What support is on offer for pupils with Special Educational Needs?
The school has a dedicated SEN team. Appropriate levels of support are offered on a case by case basis. There may be some pupils with specific SEN requirements which we are unable to support. In all instances, a collaborative and individual approach is taken with the interest of the child at the heart of it all.
Does The Ryleys School offer Financial Assistance?
Each year, a number of means tested Bursary places are offered. Bursary places are offered in all school years subject to availability. A Bursary application pack can be requested via the admissions department.  Bursary applications are highly confidential and approved by an independent panel.
Does The Ryleys School have a parental association?
Yes, The Ryleys School has an active parental association called The Ryleys Social Committee that works closely with the school to organize fundraising and social events.
