Ryleys Pupils Shine on Action‑Packed Residential Adventures at Winmarleigh Hall

Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have returned from their residential trips to Winmarleigh Hall full of excitement, confidence and stories they’ll be sharing for weeks. Set in the beautiful Lancashire countryside, Winmarleigh Hall is one of PGL’s flagship centres — a Victorian manor surrounded by acres of woodland, lakes and purpose‑built activity zones designed to stretch, challenge and inspire young people.

Across their stay, pupils embraced an impressive range of outdoor adventures: raft building on the lake, archery, the giant swing, campfire skills, problem‑solving challenges, team‑building exercises and plenty more. Each activity gave children the chance to step outside their comfort zone, discover new strengths and experience the thrill of achieving something they didn’t think they could do.

Residentials like this play a powerful role in child development. They help pupils grow in independence, resilience and self‑belief, while also strengthening friendships and encouraging teamwork in a way that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom. Being away from home — supported but gently stretched — gives children space to develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of responsibility.

A huge part of the success of the trip was down to our dedicated staff team, who brought energy, encouragement and genuine care to every moment. Their close attention ensured every child felt safe and supported, while their enthusiasm helped pupils push themselves, try new things and celebrate each other’s achievements. Judging by the laughter and the teachers’ own stories, they enjoyed the adventure every bit as much as the children.

We are incredibly proud of how brilliantly all year groups represented the school. These shared experiences create memories that last a lifetime — and we can already see the confidence gained at Winmarleigh Hall shining through back at school.
