Respect is a commonly used word used in a variety of capacities, but such an important core value to hold and demonstrate in daily life.
A definition of respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements or having due regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others.
Teaching respect and educating children about its importance is something that develops over time both in and out of school. Both respect and pride are important for our well-being and success.
When we respect others and feel respected in return, it fosters positive relationships and a sense of belonging. Furthermore, if we want to live in a tolerant, peaceful society, respect has to be at the centre of how we operate and the way we behave towards others. Respect is a fundamental value that involves treating others with dignity, kindness and empathy, even when we may not share the same beliefs or agree with someone.
The children clearly demonstrated their understanding of respect this morning during our Remembrance Assembly when the school gathered to show our respects to those who lost their lives in conflict and to reflect on their service to the country.
Special recognition was given to the 42 ex-Ryleys pupils who tragically died in the two world wars. The children's behaviour was impeccable and they made us so proud in how they conducted themselves. It was wonderful that so many parents could also join us for this special commemoration.
