From The Head - Friday 6th December 2024
We officially kick-started Christmas this week with our fabulous Pre-Reception children performing in their nativity show.
With any performance involving children, and particularly very young children, you never entirely know what you're going to get or what is going to happen which is part of the whole fun and joy of such occasions! However, this year's Pre-Reception children surpassed themselves by delivering an excellent performance where they were fully engaged, singing and dancing their hearts out and showcasing their super characters, with only a few deviations from the original plan!
As with life in general, things don't always go to plan, but that is part of the experience. Frank Cotterell Boyce calls these mishaps 'celebrations of imperfection' as they serve to highlight the human aspect of such occasions and they actually often make the event extra special and memorable.
Standing in front of an audience and performing is never an easy task, but having the confidence to do it is such a fantastic life skill and asset once you have cracked it. Starting young is a key part of this which is why we offer opportunities such as the nativities, weekly assemblies, productions, concerts and plays, all of which serve to give the children the self-assurance to perform in public without crumbling in fear.
The wonderful music assembly this morning is also testament to how important and powerful these opportunities are for developing self-esteem. The children's performances were magnificent and it was a real treat and privilege to see the children in action.
Thank you to everyone involved in making these events possible - they create such lovely memories.
