From The Head - Friday 4th October 2024

Julia Langford, Headteacher of The Ryleys School, a private school in Alderley Edge, Cheshire

Your response to our Harvest Festival appeal has been magnificent this year. Thanks to you, we will be providing three food banks with a mountain of food and other supplies.

While our lovely Harvest Assembly this morning focused on the theme of our world and the seasons, it also celebrated gratitude and generosity of spirit in helping and caring for others. This occasion is a great opportunity to help raise awareness with the children about the struggles people in our region face to put a daily meal on the table.

Since 2019, there has been a 40% increase in people accessing food banks and it is horrifying to think that so many people cannot afford to feed their families and enjoy a basic standard of living. We had visitors from both the Salvation Army and Hope Central in school this week to explain to the children what food banks do and the other services they offer to those in need.

From the number of donations, it is evident that our school community has a clear understanding about the level of need and our desire to help those less fortunate. Hopefully, we have made a small difference to somebody's life.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this appeal - it is truly appreciated.

Julia Langford.
