Our school values are at the heart of everything we do and we endeavour to live and breathe them on a daily basis. They are woven into the fabric of school life and from lessons to playtimes, clubs to community, our values shape and inform what we do.

Some Year 6 pupils created and presented a fabulous poem in assembly this morning which very cleverly incorporated our core values of a desire to learn, a global perspective, a committed team player, a generosity of spirit and a quiet confidence.

Elvis Presley said, 'Values are like fingerprints. No-one's are the same, but you leave them all over everything you do'. This is so true and, when viewed like this, it is easier to comprehend why so often mankind struggles to get along and share a common vision. What one person thinks is important may well be very different to someone else's, thus leading to conflict and discord.

The song we sang in assembly today was 'I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony'. While the alignment of shared core values would go a long way to achieving this, a hefty dose of tolerance is also required because, ultimately, we are all different and have different views and priorities. Understanding and appreciating how people tick and accepting them and respecting them for who they are, despite our differing values and life choices, is essential if we are to live peacefully and harmoniously.

Education plays a critical role in this by developing children's knowledge, understanding, tolerance and respect so that we can build and look forward to a brighter and more positive world.
