From The Head - Friday 16th May 2025
Another glorious period of weather has leant itself beautifully to the host of activities that have tak-en place this week.
The week commenced with the whole school photograph which is always a slightly challenging exercise in persuading a large number of children aged between 2 and 11, plus staff, to all be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing! However, we managed it and it is lovely to see the whole school captured in the sunshine for future generations to see what The Ryleys School was like in 2025!
Outdoor activity has been the theme of the week as Year 6 pupils were put through their paces on their Bikeability course at the beginning of the week and then on Wednesday, the Prep Department headed off to Mount Cook for the annual residential trip, again all enjoyed under blue skies which has certainly not been the case in previous years! These outdoor education activities are so vital in developing the pupils' confidence and skills for life. Having the opportunity to try new experiences and step out of the comfort zone really fosters independence and promotes a sense of self-belief, not to mention organisation skills and self-care. Plus, having these amazing experiences with friends provides memories for life and creates a real sense of camaraderie. Thank you so much to the staff who accompanied the children, giving up their own time away from their families.
At this time of the year we start to focus in earnest on the new academic year to come and there will be several transition events to follow after half term. Pre Reception children had a wonderful time on Thursday with the current Reception class as part of their transition process into the main school in September. It is hugely beneficial for the pupils to be able to move seamlessly from year to year in a comfortable, happy and familiar environment and they all thoroughly enjoyed the activities on offer and their picnic lunch, spending time with their friends and the Reception teaching team. Not only will the Pre Reception children have been very well prepared academically for the move to Reception, they will also be emotionally ready to take on the new and exciting adventures that lie ahead of them. We can't wait to see you in your blazers and hats!
Have a marvellous weekend with your families.
