From The Head - Friday 6th June 2025
Diversity, inclusion and equality are critical components of a healthy school culture. The world is a wonderfully diverse place and it is essential that children see this represented in school to promote understanding, encourage critical thinking and challenge stereotypes, helping to reduce the discrimination and prejudice that sadly still exist in society.
If children are to feel valued and have a sense of belonging, the environment needs to be appropriately diverse and inclusive so that everyone can feel they play an important role and are respected for themselves, in a classroom setting that makes adjustments and allowances for individuals to learn in a way that suits them, fostering a sense of emotional security which develops academic progress and personal growth.
Educational diversity goes beyond a mixture of ethnicities and cultures, and inclusivity ensures individual voices and perspectives are heard, where each person's personal experiences, abilities or differences are
valued and respected.
In assembly this morning, in recognition of Tourettes Awareness Day, we heard a poignant poem beautifully read out by one of our Y3 pupils which perfectly encapsulated the concept of difference and diversity, and how we are all special in our own way. The poem highlighted how we are all wired in different ways, with different strengths and weaknesses, talents and challenges. However, ultimately, we are all human and deserve to be recognised and appreciated for who and what we are.
Enjoy a lovely weekend with your families.
